Avoid Burnout: Ways to Recharge and Stay Motivated
Burnout can happen to anyone, even those of us that love our jobs and are passionate about the work we do. Work-related burnout is a type of stress that results in a lack of motivation and a lack of ability to feel fulfillment through achievement. Below are tips to avoid burnout and maintain the healthiest, happiest, most successful version of yourself.
Take Care of Your Mental Health
Your mental health affects your physical health and the quality of your life in every area. You can’t pour from an empty cup. The same is true for yourself. You cannot exhaust yourself to a point where you have nothing left to give to your career, your family, your friends, or yourself. Rest and proper health create an environment where creativity and productivity thrive to the fullest potential. Even a short 5 minute meditation can reduce stress and refocus your mind and body. There are many free, easy to use apps such as Insight Timer where you can search different topics such as manifestation or anti-anxiety. When you give your mind time to be calm and at peace you increase focus, decrease anxiety, and improve your ability to be at the top of your game at work.
Take Regular Breaks from Blue Light and Screens
Technology has become a wonderful tool and a necessary means of work and communication, but staring at your phone or computer for long periods of time can affect you in negative ways. Taking breaks from your computer and phone screens throughout the day is healthy for your eyes, and if you are on your computer often throughout the workday blue light glasses can help reduce eye strain and headaches from screens.
Take Care of Your Physical Health
Move your body daily. Walking is one of the most underrated and easiest exercises to improve overall health. Regular exercise improves your mental and physical health and releases healthy hormones that give you energy to live your best life. As Summer approaches, make sure to spend time outside to absorb nutrients from the sun and enjoy fresh air regularly. Try grounding where you stand or walk with barefeet in the grass to reconnect yourself with the Earth. This can improve your mental health and concentration. Healthy snacks and proper nutrition can also boost energy levels which leads to a more energized and focused brain.
Prioritize Time Management, Organization, and Planning
Any successful person is great at these three things. Your time is your greatest asset, so when you plan things out, stay organized, and have time management skills you have a much better chance at avoiding burn-out and staying on track with your goals. Whether you're working with Google Calendar, Microsoft Office, or using a hand-written planner, it’s incredibly important to find a way to stay organized that works for you.
